Soiden Soidinmenot is a media-art piece combining avantgarde-jazz and peatland research.
Soiden Soidinmenot combines engaging peatland restoration and research footage to the visionary avant -garde jazz expression of jazz guitarist Heikki Ruokangas. The end result is both a multimedia installation on multiple screens and a live performance.
The purpose of the project is to increase the understanding of the importance of marshes and peatlands and to introduce the viewer to the world of avant-garde and modern jazz. The video creates an aesthetic soundscape that serves as a background to footage of marshes, peatlands and related phenomena, as well as a scripted, research -based presentations.
Music creates the frames that are filled with imagery and signed with facts.

The team behind Soiden Soidinmenot consists of musician Heikki Ruokangas, director and science communicator Juho Karjalainen and photographer Vesa Ranta. Ruokangas acts as composer and creative leader, Karjalainen is responsible for the screenplay, and direction of the video material and science content, while the visuals are produced with Ranta.
Soiden Soidinmenot can be performed as a live event in libraries, galleries, pubs, taverns and schools. It can be built as an installation in museums and various pop up spaces. This is not a music video or a documentary, but a work of art that truly unites science, art and science communication. The work is actively ongoing.
